My 2nd Book is Almost Here!

After publishing the original Delightfully Free and over the process of selling more than 12,000 copies, I continued to create more recipes, constantly aiming to make them even more delicious, nutritious and free of as many common food allergens as possible. Of course, before long, I knew I wanted to share them in a second book.

So, a large part of my 2015 was consumed with creating, photographing and writing my second book, proudly entitled Even More Delightfully Free:

Even More Delightfully Free is just that--more of the original Delightfully Free. It has 166 new recipes, 135 of which are grain free. Every recipe in the book is 100% free of gluten, dairy, refined sugar, soy, corn, yeast, oats, peanuts, dye and artificial sweeteners.

As with my first book and now Even More with this new one, my goal has been to use the healthiest, most nutritious, smartest ingredients, remove as many undesirable components as possible and create delicious new versions of everything from breakfast to dinner, including desserts, snacks and holiday favorites.

You'll enjoy breads, muffins and cakes that are grain free. "Potato" Soup that is potato free. Spaghetti with Meatballs that is tomato free. Four pages of new salad dressings, including vinegar-free selections. "Peanut butter" cake and cookies that are peanut free. All of this can be accomplished by substituting a nutritious, better food for the problematic one traditionally used. So, pizza crust, potato salad and white rice (in say Chinese fried rice) is replaced by cauliflower or cauliflower "rice." Cream cheese, whipped cream and cheesecake are clean and guilt-free by using cashews ending up with amazingly similar taste and texture. Pancakes and waffles you could swear are just like the ones you used to love are grain free and what's more, completely nutritious by making them out of white beans. And the list goes on.

Even More Delightfully Free is the perfect bookend to Delightfully Free in the kitchen. It, like the original, is a hardback with a hidden spiral, printed on 100 Lb glossy paper with a full color photograph for nearly every recipe. Also, at the front of the book you will find an updated "Stocking Your GF, DF, SF Pantry."

Delightfully Free is in Santa's Kitchen

Delightfully Free, the cookbook of recipes that are all free of gluten, dairy, refined sugar and yeast, is actually a big favorite with this wonderful Santa:

Here's the story. This Santa who entertains kids and adults alike at the Sugar Plum Arts & Crafts Shows in Southern California is also known for cooking healthy. In fact, last year when I first got to know him, the event organizer gave him a copy of Delightfully Free signed by all the vendors because it became know that the book was on his Christmas list:

Savoy Cafe 10 Year Anniversary

It was such a happy email I received a few days ago announcing that the Savoy Cafe & Deli in Santa Barbara was celebrating its 10th anniversary! What a charming, lovely place in the incomparable coastal city of Santa Barbara.

I love going to Savoy Cafe & Deli. Why? Let's begin with the charming, warm hospitality of owners Kathy and Paul Shields, and their entire staff, which extends not just to me but to every guest they make feel welcomed and special. I have had the privilege and special experience of doing a couple of book signings at Savoy Cafe & Deli. What fun! But, even if I'm not doing a book signing there, I make it a point to stop in for some creatively great food whenever I'm anywhere near Santa Barbara at meal time.

The food is creative, tempting, delicious and presented beautifully. Choices of all kinds of salads like Strawberry Spinach w/ Walnuts, Forbidden Rice Salad and Fresh Greek w/ Creamy Feta, or the best salad bar in town, homemade quiches, fresh soups like Tomato-Basil and Creamy Chipotle Carrot, innovative fresh sandwiches and a range of hot entrees like Seared Wild Salmon, Pasilla Turkey Fritters, Oven Roasted Veggies and Macaroni & Cheese, just to name a few. To top it off, Kathy bakes daily a variety of treats like cakes by the slice, pies, cookies, cheesecake and muffins. Many of the selections are gluten free, dairy free/vegan and some are naturally sweetened. It's also reasonably priced.

Harvest Festival in Del Mar, California

I just finished my very first Harvest Festival in Ontario, California and now I have another one coming up in two weeks in Del Mar, California from October 23-25. These are really big events with many vendors and entertainment (live music on stage and strolling entertainers). Harvest Festivals have been doing large, original art & craft shows in Northern & Southern California since 1972. With the Holidays and gift buying just ahead, they are a great place to spend some time shopping.
