Back at Lazy Acres Market in Santa Barbara, CA

I have sung the praises of the Santa Barbara area many times on my blog and been at many events throughout the area. So, I am looking forward to visiting an amazing natural foods market in Santa Barbara called "Lazy Acres" where I'll be signing copies of my gluten-free, dairy-free & refined sugar-free cookbook, Delightfully Free, this Saturday, May 3rd. I'll be there from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Here's what I had to say about Lazy Acres and the Santa Barbara area in my post of July 29, 2013:

Santa Barbara, California is a fabulous destination. The scenery is incredible, the beaches, beautiful views of the Pacific including the Channel Islands off the coast. Shopping and restaurants to die for! State Street is busy with an array of California's flair for casual chic.

Near the shoreline to the west of State Street is an amazing natural foods market called "Lazy Acres".

Lazy Acres is a favorite with the SB locals and for good reason. The store emphasizes organic and natural foods, and includes gluten-free products. It boasts a beautiful Deli and Cappuccino and Juice Bars. A Health and Beauty Vitamin department and even an alluring Cookware Gift section make shopping at Lazy Acres much more than just a trip to the grocery store.

Pacific Health Foods

I'm looking forward to a busy--but fun-- weekend in the Santa Barbara, California area.

My weekend actually starts this coming Friday in the picturesque coastal city of Carpinteria ("Carp").

Just about a 100 foot walk south of the intersection of Carpinteria and Linden Avenues in downtown Carp, sits Pacific Health Foods  at 944 Linden Ave. Pacific Health Foods is the bomb for healthy foods, supplements and smoothies! I am proud to say that Delightfully Free is also available there, and they have sold cases and cases of my cookbooks!

So this Friday, May 2nd, I'll be participating in Carpinteria's monthly event called "First Friday"! It is a street fair which runs from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The Carp Chamber of Commerce explains that participating businesses located throughout the downtown community will be flying blue and yellow flags to show their participation. Merchants, restaurants and galleries will be offering an array of incentives including refreshments, bargains and there will also be scattered entertainment to add to the fun atmosphere. You can eat, stroll and check out my book along with Pacific Health Foods market if you're not already familiar with them.

I hope to see you there.

Mother's Day is Coming!

Each Mother's Day I celebrate my Moms--Dixie and Pat-- whom I adore and respect. I thank the Lord daily that they have been, and continue to be, a huge part of my life. I also have been triply blessed in that I have three wonderful daughters of my own!

On Mothers Day, the best gift we can give them is to let them know how truly loved and appreciated they are.

With that said, the occasion often includes gifts :)  So... as I sometimes say at my book signings... "Delightfully Free makes a meaningful, practical and pretty gift!" If you are looking for something special to give to your Mom this Mother's Day, why not give her a copy of Delightfully Free? It is a beautiful hardback book with a functional hidden spiral. The recipes are printed on glossy 100 lb paper pages, with a beautiful color photograph for virtually all recipes. (Most books use 40 lb paper.)  The hardback feature makes it perfect to display Delightfully Free in the kitchen or on a coffee table, while the hidden spiral makes the book highly functional in the kitchen because it allows the book to open and lay perfectly flat at any of the 141 recipes.

If you won't be there to hand your gift to your mother, we gladly ship to the address you provide. Also, I will sign each book and even gift wrap it if you let me know on your order that it is a gift (use the "Instructions from Buyer" feature).

My warmest wishes to each Mom out there for a truly honoring day filled with love, family and hopefully some fabulous GF, DF, refined SF goodies, bringing you and your family especially Delightful memories!

The Second Edition is Here!!

I'm excited to show you!!

As you can see, the cover and spine are just the same, except for that little "2nd Edition" graphic, which means...that I have come out with a Second Edition as some of you already know. Also, the book is still a hardback with a hidden spiral to make it easy and convenient to work from any of the 141 recipes on any of the glossy 100 lb paper pages in the book. (Most books use 40 lb paper.) Of course, the full color, beautiful photographs of every recipe remain as well!

So, why a Second Edition? This text taken from the book says it best. Here's the explanation from page 2:

I am not medically trained, but in this past year, the information that has come out about agave nectar, and the many knowledgeable naturopaths, nutritionists and functional medicine professionals I have spoken with, have made me convinced that there are better natural sweeteners. So, I knew that I must adjust the recipes that had used agave in order to offer only the healthiest, most nutritious recipes possible.

The project took months of hard work! But I feel that it was WELL worth it!!! The re-working of just over one third of my recipes has made them even healthier than before. And--my resident chief taster, my husband Bri, (who sometimes appears on this blog), is adamant that the results taste even more delicious than before!

Delightfully Free is currently carried in about 150 medical/nutrition-based offices as a patient resource. I am very gratified at the response the medical community is having now to the Second Edition. As I mention in my "What's New in This Second Edition," their feedback was a major reason I decided to re-work the recipes to eliminate agave nectar.

I recently saw a Dr. Oz Show episode which aired on February 27, 2014. Dr. Oz said that he had previously recommended agave nectar, but would not be doing so any longer, in part because of the high fructose level. (I have also heard him praise coconut palm sugar.) So even the renowned and very entertaining Dr. Oz would approve of this new Second Edition. Of course, I hope to hear that you do too!

Wishing you health and Joy!
